Summer comes to a close. What now?

Labor Day, the holiday that indicates summer's over is just around the corner.  Where has the time gone?  Seems like were we just looking forward to the Memorial Holiday and about to kick off summer.  The older I get the more I realize time is precious and fleeting.  Fact is I feel as though I should be working right now. Throwing caution to the wind, taking a walk on the wild side, here I sit thinking.  Thinking about time, goals and the fact I need to get my 'ducks in a row' so to speak.  Goals...

Taking The Risk

Some people are risk takers and some are not.  Research shows it's not just a behavour but a personality.  Are you a risk taker?  It appears that I am although I never would have considered I was.  My career in the fitness industry began in 1985 and through the years my personal accomplishments have been extremely rewarding.  Recently I decided to 'go for it' and open my own facility. After all, why not?  Do I want to always wonder about the 'what if's'?  Bam...

LLC vs. S-Corporation

One of the first questions new clients ask me when forming a new fitness business is whether or not they should form as an LLC or an S-Corporation. These two types of entities are selected by more than 90% of my clients because each is tax favorable to the business owner (both entities have flow through taxation, meaning, the business does not pay tax – but instead the earnings of the business flow through to the member’s/shareholder’s personal tax return where taxes are ultimately paid).

Being an Owner

Ahhh the glorious Owner title.. A blessing to those who know how to use it and a curse to those who crown themselves too early.I started out on the cursed side for sure! I left the gym I was working for in September of last year without a single client to follow me over to my new company.

Lifestyle

Another workout down for my client Melisa. Half way through, in her exhausted state of being she managed to tell me she loves working out.. She said she used to hate it when she was younger because it "hurt." She started a little less than a month ago and is already down 12 lbs and 13 total inches.Everything disappears when I'm working out. All the stress of my day is gone in an instant and the only thing i can think about is what im doing right here and now.

Determination+Hard Work= RESULTS and the cool stuff :)

The determination on this client of mine is like nothing ive ever seen! She came to me wanting to lose weight and tone up... I had no idea how much she would actually put into it but I was ready to run if she was.Day one came and it wasnt looking good... barely a 20 second plank (on the forearms) and 20 squats and she had taken a seat.3 months later..She has bought 3 new pairs each one 2 sizes smaller than the last. She flips 500lb tires. She can do L sits on the parallel bars and is well on her way to doing pullups.

New Years Resolutions. Will you succeed or fail?

Did you know 50% of Americans set themselves a New Year’s Resolution?  My concept is people want to change themselves for the better.  After all, most resolutions are geared towards personal improvements of some sort, which is pretty amazing!  However the flip side of the coin is that 88% of all those who set resolutions from America and around the world fail.  Sadly year after year disappointed minds tally up to about 156 million failed resolutions.   However we can’t beat ourselves up for not meeting the goal.  Did you know there is a science

Some Assembly Required

Throughout the month of December, we have been giving our fitness studio a serious facelift. We replaced the office type flooring with light rubberized gym-flooring and painted the walls and ceiling. While we had everything out and about, it was a good opportunity to re-think the layout of the equipment which resulted in some rearranging of the larger machines.

Do I eat 'healthy' 100% of the time?

Holidays and special occasions are often difficult times to keep with your 'healthy eating' regime. The same goes for fitness professionals, which is the reason this topic came to mind.  Recently some friends and I met for lunch.  When the waiter asked for my order I felt all eyes on me.  It was as though the world had stopped...
