Memorial Day is a day of reflection for me.I think about all those men and women who have paid the ultimate sacrific for our country, allowing us to live freely and make choices. Choices we often take for granted. We are very lucky for their service and what it brings to our lives. What does this have to do with your fitness? Those choices that we are granted, give us the opportunity to change our lives every single day.
One of the common themes of yoga is balance (physical, mental, spiritual). One of the common themes of my teaching when I am thinking about our connection downward to the earth, and the way we lift upward with control is the strong triangle. Shavasana is one of the major postures chosen for rest because it requires little muscular tension to maintain. Cat position may be hard if one's knees are compromised, but try lifting one limb and you can feel how you begin to tighten to hold the position. Lift two and this is more difficult.
So let’s follow what might be a typical exercise program design. Monday, hop on the treadmill and go for 30 minutes. Tuesday, a little resistance training for the upper body with say…10-15 pounds. Wednesday, rest…after-all you worked hard the past couple days and rest IS important. Thursday, treadmill again…Friday, perhaps a little work on the lower body and core. Week 2---repeat. Week 3---repeat. Week 4 through 100---repeat! Now whoa up there!
Well, it’s another year. You know – new year, new me! I see that phrase everywhere. There are a ton of new faces at the gym or running around the neighborhood. You know our favorite food and pharmaceutical companies start placating to our new motivations to be slim and trim. How many weight-loss commercials do you see on a given day? How many magic pills (so they say…) are marketed to us? Yes, I know – TONS! The beginning of a year conjures up feelings of starting anew with the avid need to tackle all your goals.

My PEOPLE...how are you? I have to say, it does seem like I'm having a conversation with myself most of the time but I guess this is true until someone reads it. Today I want to touch on what I like to call "Fitness Alliances". What is a Fitness alliance you ask? Its people, places or things that remind you or encourage you to remember that health and wellness are now a PRIORITY in your life. Again I go back to the "know it all attitude". I am guilty of this my damn self.
Good Morning Faster Fitness Family,
