I have mentioned on more than one occasion( I tend to be a broken record....... sorry) that the core is SO MUCH more that just the six pack muscles.
Although a six pack/slim mid section looks great, how the core performs functions in our everyday life is much more important. Because if it is not bad things can happen.

I have a confession. I have never had a six pack. When I first started exercising, I had no idea about "the core". That is your six pack right? I did those silly floor crunches just like everyone else and I wondered why I wasn't getting results. But, we know better now right?

Almost everyone loves the look of a well defined stomach right? But the core is much more than your six pack muscle. However, if you walk into any gym, crunches rule the roost Seen enough crazy crunches to last me a life time!

Almost everyone who comes to the gym wants a sexy midsection. Right? Know I do. But it's not all about looks..... it is about function as well.
Weak core will limit everything you do, in and out of the gym. Weak core will cause poor posture and low back pain. Limit the weight you can lift. How far you can run. How much air you can breath in. The list can go on and on.

When people start to realize they are putting weight around their mid section, the crunches come out. People yanking on their necks and looking like they are having a fit on the gym floor. Bad.
Do you know it takes 22,000 crunches to lose a pound of fat around your abs? Who has time for that?

There’s a constant focus on what is new, flashy and trendy. For example. P90X, Insanity, Zumba, Shake weight. Just kidding on the shake weight. Still wanted to see if you were still reading.
And, to a certain extent, that’s fine. But in pursuing the new, the cutting-edge and the fresh, we can sometimes overlook the basics.

I have a friend; let's call him Derek.
Derek was an avid athlete and spent his fair time in the gym in University. The guy wasn't ripped but had some muscle. Derek is brilliant. So much so that he landed a 6-figure job directly out of University in New York. Fast-forward 5 years and he's making $500,000+ a year.

This is the forgotten part of fitness. Not has sexy as core training. Or pumping out a set of bicep curls in the mirror. Or wearing that tank top to show of your muscles. Hey I have been guilty of all that!
