Will I be at a disadvantage if I purchase the NASM-CPT study materials while they are on sale before the new materials come out?

Personal TrainingNational Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM)Certifications

I'm thinking about purchasing the study materials for the NASM-CPT while they are on sale and wanted to know if I'm going to be at a disadvantage if I purchase the old materials while studying for the test? Will the test also be changing or is it just an update to the study materials to make the material more interesting/ easier to retain? The sale ends on 11-30-2011 so any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I have both the old and new text, the new text has a whole new chapter on bioenergetics that isn't in the old text. There are some minor differences outside of that but nothing major.

You can always research the new material now. Just contact NASM and have them verify what changes that they made and GOOGLE away.

Thanks for the information Miroslava! I'm still hesitant to move forward though and wanted to ask if you would possibly know what type of information is being changed in the study materials?

My advice is ALWAYS buy the most up to date material you can because our industry changes quite often. For instance I had the new manual on pre-order 30 days before its print date. I also did this with ACE and NSCA(which just came out this month). You can never be too up to date.

Thanks for the information guys. I went ahead and purchased the 3rd edition materials while they were one sale because I couldn't pass up such a great sales offer. I'm one step closer to my goal and so excited and nervous to get started!

Good luck it is a lot to learn and can be overwhelming just take it one day at a time and you will do fine if you work hard.

Take advantage of the deal!
The updates from one edition to the next usually aren't that much so you're not going to miss much. However, I'd recommend you stay on top of your continuing education by subscribing to a reputable journal, like ACSM's Health & Fitness Journal.
