Why is the QL commonly tight in so many people based on the research?

Wild guess but going with sitting most of the day.
I agree with Bryant-it is from being in a seated position for so many hours during the day. The erector spinae gets weak and unable to extend the lower back and the QL functions in this capacity. The QL gets overworked and becomes short and tight.
