If you are not eating a balanced carbohydrate/protein/fat diet then you may feel sleepy after eating. A carbohydrate rich diet stimulates the feed and breed part of our nervous system, with protein stimulating the fight and flight automonic responses. So a balance of these will keep you alert and not lull you to sleep.

It could be a sensitivity to sugars, preservatives, stimulants, etc. Are you getting enough water? Or it could be portion size issue. You won't know till you try eliminating some things and see how your body reacts.

A good rule of thumb, if you're concerned, is to work with a dietician or nutritionist to identify the possible culprit.

Digestion takes up a lot of energy. Blood is shunted away of larger muscles and shunted towards the part of the body that requires the energy.

That's why it is so important to leave heavy meals for when one doesn't need to engage in labor-intensive or cognitive intensive activities.

Best!

Hello Patricia Longwright,

My first thought is that you may be eating too much at once, as Joanne Duncan-Carnesciali explains. I would also take everyone else's advice.
Take care.
