Why do I get incredibly tired after I eat meals?

Nutrition Food

I get really tired after meals even if there aren't any carbs in them. Why does this happen and do you have any suggestions for how to remedy the situation?

Hello Karisa,

I would suggest that you address this question to a doctor. While getting a little tired after a meal is normal, your description does not fit that scenario. If I were you, I would seek medical advice sooner rather than later.

chances are you eat a meal is to much with carbohydrate given you sugar crash..but it can be other reasons. you just need to be more specific, for example: meal content, what time of the day, how many weals you eat a day..etc...

You would have to post a sample of your daily meal plan... What is the fat content of your diet? Try eating vegan then slowly add some healthy proteins back in.

Carbs will only be a factor if its sugar, if you are cutting carbs out then you will have no energy until you enter ketosis then your energy will rebound. Ketosis should take you 3-5 days to get to if you are eating less than 50 g of carbs per day. If you eat any sugar at all you stop the process of entering ketosis and will crash worse.

Are you on a particular low carb diet, and if so why?

Believe it or not, I had the same issue, and spoke with my Doctor. He suggested that I eat smaller meals more often, as I would get extremely sleepy after dinner; crashing really, and then wake up in the middle of the night spiking. But there are so many variables, always check with your Doctor!
