Mine is through NASM. They offer an online web certification with notes. Very comprehensive.

I have also heard good things about IYCA which was written by Brian Grasso.

Thanks for the question and answers. Which offer more evidence based training? There are so many awful personal training certifications out there. I hope the same thing does not happen with the youth sports world too. What types of settings are they training you for? Specific types of training-strength, aerobic, sport specific, flexibility?

As Middle/High School teacher, I recommend at least taking some college courses and learning about the Department of Education's Physical Education Standards and Framework. It would be great for fitness professionals to be consistent with school teachers in teaching the same goals and objectives that is set by each state. Also, using the same terminology was be nice.
Every state has it's own Health, Physical Education, Recreation and dance (HPERD) conference that teaches Standards and Framework.
The National organization is www.aahperd.org
ACE and AFAA can petition it for credit because the presenters had HPERD degrees.
I'm a presenter for the California HPERD www.cahperd.org

I am IYCA certified as a High School Strength and Conditioning Specialist and love their program. It lacks real exercise science like the bigger certifications but is solid. What I mean by real exericse science is there is no section on exercise physiology but instead goes indepth in how to coach/train groups of kids and their different personaltities as well as exercises that are specific to our current generation of hunched over computer jockey kids.

Hi Jill. "Best" like everything else is a relative term. A lot will depend upon what's important to YOU. I hold a certification through the IYCA as a Youth Conditioning Specialist, but I'm sure that there are others out there. I would recommend some "comparison shopping" before making your decision. You may want to consider such things as information covered, cost, back-end support etc.
I hope that this helps.
