Hi, It all depends on what you're looking for. I started out working and training myself @ a Big Box Gym. I'm now split my time with private clients and as a trainer @ a university.
Box gyms have a lot of generic stuff and they prvide a lot of basic things as in pools, group classes etc. If you want a specific type of training, look for a functional based gym or sports related training facility. It looks like you are in California? If you are check out California Strength and Allyn Cosgrove's facility to get the idea of what I'm talking about.
Hope this helps

Hello Dereck,
I would stop by both gyms, most have a free 3/5/7 day trial. Then decide from there.

Hi Dereck. As previously stated, what's 'best' will be what's best for you, and this depends a lot on what your specific needs/goals are. Most large fitness facilities will offer very much of the same (e.g. resistance equipment, aerobic equipment, group exercise classes, personal training etc.). A lot will (may) come down to some of the 'other things' such as parking, expertise of the staff/trainers, how crowded it gets, the types of classes they offer, cleanliness, etc. These 'other things' are quite often what separates one large gym from another.
As suggested, I would recommend that you try a trial use of each. I would also add, that you should visit each gym at the time of day you think that you will typically use it so that you get an idea about some of the things I mentioned above (i.e. parking, how crowded etc.).
I hope that this helps.

Which one is most convenient?
Which one has everything you need?

Id argue which one has a better mix of both clients and coworkers. One thing that few people look at is who you'll be working with. Its never fun or intelligent to find yourself with a boss or coworker who you just don't mesh with.

Go check them out. It varies depending on the individual.

I'm sure by now you have made your selection. But next time you are looking for a gym try Planet Fitness as well. They are similar to 24Hr and LA Fitness, except much cheaper. You can do month to month for $10/month or for $20/moth you can use their hydro massage and tanning as many times as you like. They have plenty of equipment and you almost never have to wait for a machine or any other free weights.
Best,
