Where is the AFAA Personal trainer Certification accepted for employment?
How does it rank compared to other training programs?

Hi Heather. Which certifications that an employer accepts is really employer-specific. I've seen job openings where the employer specifically seeks out trainers with an AFAA certification and others that don't. Here's an idea, go to AFAA's website and take a look at their Job Openings section and see which employers are there looking for trainers.
I got my initial certification through AFAA back in 1993. But since then, have pursued others (e.g. my CSCS, USAW and others) to supplement those credentials.
I hope that this helps/

Hi Theresa!
AFAA is a certification that some employers don't pay too much attention to! That's TOO BAD because it covers a lot of what some trainers don't pay enough attention to, which is muscles and their functions, on both the written and the practical exam. It's definitely worth getting it.

I find it to be as widely accepted as ACE, ACSM, and Cooper Institute---and we do require both written and practical segments, which is recognized to be quite comprehensive as far as testing goes. :)

You need to remember that a certificate is not required by any state code (law). So, it is a individual preference amongst club managers/owners.
