Hi Megan
I am curious why are you asking this question? Are you considering a website for yourself? Have you considered using your IDEA fitnessconnect as your marketing piece online? Do you intend to have a shopping cart? What are the reasons for wanting your own site?

Yes, I love my website. Yes, I did hire a designer originally, over ten years ago. It was very expensive. I can edit my site myself and made adjustments and deletions as needed.
Yes, I get monthly visitor stats as well as lots of other juicy info., (a service most website hosts provide). Several years back to drive visitors I started podcasting. This had a big effect on stats, however, this did not necessarily produce business. This is why I ask you what is your goal in having a site. If you are looking for greater credibility, a website may help. If you are looking to drive business to yourself as a personal trainer you are wise to have a marketing plan to drive business to your site.
All the best
Danielle

Hire a web designer as this is a very complex process that most people will not have the skills to do. Wordpress offers a great way to create a basic page. However, look into trading services with designers (personal training package for web design package). Good way to benefit both parties as website design can be $$$$.

I did my own web site, using Serif WebPlus, and I am glad I did. I paid about $70 for the software, and then there is the domain and the hosting but that is not a lot.

I must confess, using the software had a bit of a learning curve, and I uttered many phrases towards my computer not to be repeated in polite company. However, I loved the fact that I acquired an additional skill. I can easily move anything around the way I want. I have nothing too fancy, pretty much just information about myself and what I do. If you want to see the end result, please visit my web site www.meltnc.com.

I use Google Analytics and love it. With that I had help, though, because the software is somewhat self-contained. My computer guy (whose daughter I trained) charged very little, and he is on my web site under a tab 'Meet my Friends' where I add referrals to other sites.

I think the best way to approach most this is to hire individuals who do the job best.

It's the same thing in our industry. If you want the best results as far as fitness and wellness is concerned, one must be prepared to pay for the best.

I would say that you should hire a professional web designer. It's what they do for a living, and a good one can also help you integrate your social media (twitter, Facebook) sites in to your web presence.
I work with Julie from Grassroots Web in Hamburg NY. She used to be a personal trainer and understands the unique needs of our industry. Julie also does all her own work.

I was blessed with a friend who graduated in graphic design. She did my website as a project to boost her resume while, also, helping me out. She really showed off her talent and I am very thankful that she chose my business to do so.

I went through Godaddy.com to get my domain and create my own website. It was a lot of work, but to save the money I was willing to try it. The more computer savvy you are, the better the results. And although I have yet to make use of them, they have people to call for technical help. And just like Karin said, I acquired some new skills, which is always rewarding.

Hi Megan, I'd recommend using WordPress. It's cheap, and you can edit the site yourself with no coding. A good place to start is with some free tutorials like these: http://www.presscoders.com/hd-wordpress-tutorials/

There are so many way to create your website, and they are costly and cheap also, if you have knowledge about the technical ways then you must go for WordPress as it is free and we can make change as we want without doing codding. Other wise you can go for PHP and for more detailed about that visit :- http://www.indianic.com/hire-custom-website-designers.html
