What is your favorite brand of equipment to use while training a client?

EquipmentClientsPersonal Training

I am just curious if any trainers out there have some specific brand that is a favorite to use, I personally love Hammer Strength.

If I had to choose from the 'machine world' I would probably go with Freemotion. What I like about them is that they allow for more adaptation to different body frames and sizes. On the other hand, I also take machines with individual weights per side (as in Hammer Strength) over those with just one weight stack.

Having said all that, my favorite 'machine' is the floor with balls, bosus, rollers, bands and all the other gadgets.

Bosu ball. I train girls, moms and grammas. It is liked by all and great for variety of needs, especially safe, effective balance training in variety of exercises.

Equipment is made for the purpose of taxing the body based on different physiological, and musculoskeletal aspects. To have a one set of equipment be your favorite for your clients to use may be a disservice to your clients or patients. Each client should be unique in what phase or stage of adaptation their body is at to determine what exercise to select and what piece of resistance training equipment to use. I do agree certain commercial strength training pieces are better than others, however the importance is behind how to correctly sequence and progress with them relative your client/patients goals.

I do like free motion, that maybe my favorite. Its pretty smooth equipment and won't cause a lot of injury.

TRX! Anything incorporating body weight, functional movements, and core stabilization is something powerful in a trainer's arsenal. A must have in any gym.

I like free weights for most clients, especially those just beginning a strength training program. With dumbells and barbells you can teach your client to execute safe and effective movements. While the many machines on the market offer a variety of resistance exercises, the reality is that some of them don't correctly fit your client.

I've found that a simple set of resistance bands can work well for my clients. With bands we can adjust the resistance to almost any level we want by widening or narrowing the base of support, etc. Bands seem work well for teaching my clients proper muscle control throughout a paticular range of motion. The downside is that on some exercises like a chest fly, the bands can prove a little difficult to mangage and sometimes they can pinch the skin. Overall I think for in-home training bands are cheap, efficient, and reliable.

I love the Hoist machines in our gym, TRX, jump ropes, the heavy bags, resistance bands, and the Power Plate. I feel like a kid in a candy store with so much equipment around me!
