The one that you are actually going to use!
Realistically, there is more than one way to achieve your goal. If you have a chronic metabolic disease, you are going to have different needs than a healthy college athlete. Education is the key.
High Intensity Interval Training would be my choice if I could only chose one modality.

There is a bunch of weight loss websites today. its all in preference. I like diet.com and even menshealth just cause not only do they have weight loss articles, but also workouts and delicious recipes to help in weight loss. Runner's world is also a great resource and more importantly myapex.com, they have calculators and coaches to guide you through your fitness goals.

There are a lot of so called weight loss products and website out there today. I have used and found the most easy to use is Loseit.com where you can track your food, exercise and goals.

The best resource for weight loss is EDUCATION. Once you have the knowledge of food and underlying concepts you can eat a well balanced diet. Do not follow media scams, marketing, or health claims. If it says something will loss weight fast it most likely not the solution. Educate yourself through reading, other professionals or taking courses to better develop the issues, and solutions to creating a healthy lifestyle.!

The best resource for weight loss is a registered dietician.

I am quite partial to Weight Watchers. They have a gerat support system with their meetings, the recommendations are realistic, and the program is easy to follow.

One of the resources that I find is helpful to one of my clients that IDEA is a partner with is called Spark People. In fact, all of our profiles can be found on that webpage. If you are unfamiliar with it, I encourage you to have a visit.

A registered dietician, professional personal trainer, support system, and an open mind.

I would recommend SparkPeople too as well as FitDay.com as a good resource - free, simple to use and packed full of valuable information

I think that any program which will teach portion control as well as healthy choices is the best. I prefer Weight Watchers because they don't have any restricted foods; instead higher calorie foods simply get worked into your day. Even if you don't follow a program, writing down what and how much you eat will assist you in realizing where your problem areas are. Good luck!

This may not be everybody's "best," but one nice thing www.choosemyplate.com offers that other diet logs seem to focus on less is portion control feedback/portion size estimation tips.

Weight gain or the inability to lose bodyfat can be from a # of health imbalances, until those foundations are balanced weight loss may always be a challenge; to keep it off long term.
1. Fix Digestion- healthy choices, but is that person digesting that food, and are they absorbing it? Is the primitive brain thinking they're starving because they're tissue's aren't receiving nutrients.
2. Blood Sugar Imbalances- A person can work out all day long with the best of the best trainer, but if they go home and eat carbohydrates beyond their metabolic need, insulin will store any and all food as bodyfat therefore sabotaging all the hard exercise.
3. Fatty Acid Balance- If the body doesn't receive enough fatty acids, liver & gallbladder function will diminish, fat metabolism will dysfunction, cells become leaky, hormones cannot clear blood, feedback loop whacks out, Leptin becomes involved...etc.
4. Mineral Status- If minerals are deficient this will cause the adrenals to fatigue. Fatigued adrenals lead to the pregnenolone steal which robs the thyroid of precursor hormones leaving it malnourished unable to function and slows metabolic function
5. Hydration- Is the client hydrated. Its the #1 nutritional deficiency. Hydration leads to inflammation, leads to weight gain. Hormones do not flush, edema occurs, etc. etc.
All of these 5 foundations of health if left unbalanced lead to weight gain or the inability to lose bodyfat and keep it off. These foundations play numerous factors in weight loss, esp. digestion. Food allergies are huge, which cause inflammation in the GI and systemic brain chemistry which causes all sorts of sugar cravings, depression and food issues, digestion is key.

A great national organization for support and education is TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly). They don't have the budget for large national marketing campaigns but do a great job with weight loss at a cost of around $40.00 a year.

Tracking is number one, you can use a small journal or your iPhone.
Being accountable for everything that goes in your mouth has been shown over and over again as being one of the most important tools for weight loss.
Of course, working out at a high enough intensity to make a difference!

Have you ever heard the saying you do have two choices, you can eat yourself into poor health and early death or you can eat yourself into good health and live a long healthy life. What most people do not realize, they are choosing the first. Everybody needs some encouragement and the drive, some point in their lives to get to where they want to be. I have reached mine.
Body By Vi (Visalus) is amazing! And it is for everyone. This challenge really works! My fav are the shakes, they are amazing! Not thick, don't have to choke them down. And they taste like cake mix! :D Best of all it only costs $1.97 for a meal(shake)! Everyone must know, I feel much better, full and more energized after drinking these healthy shakes!
