I use a 3 foot 6" diameter foam roll and 2, 12 inch 1/2 foam rolls.
I go through a posture analysis with my clients and as we find tightness and weakness the foam roll can be used for myofascial massage as well as several balance and body weight exercises for a thorough strength, stretch and balance workout. (That is the most popular piece of equipment I use)

Ever since I have been a fully certified MELT (Myfascial Energetic Length Technique) instructor, I have included it my personal training. This is a technique of self-treatment, and I have been teaching my clients things to do by themselves using the soft roller.

My clients also love the MELT Strength techniques because they require nothing but a roller and a light dynaband.

Another aspect about this method is to me that it helps clients unstress, and I can very easily change the workout plan to make it a complete MELT session if I am dealing with a client who needs this kind of help.

Some of the most popular things with my clients include: mastery of specific skills and movement patterns. The intrinsic satisfaction is priceless. Plus, there is still the bragging rights associated with being able to perform a particular exercise or movement that felt next to impossible weeks or months before:)

I prefer using dynamic movements to enhance both their workouts, and their time outside of the studio (playing golf, skiing, snowboarding, keeping up with toddlers, hauling large/awkward objects and equipment around). Exercises that occur on more than one plane are challenging and satisfying:

-floor to ceiling (weight starts on diagonal on floor and lifted in that direction up and around).
-any upper body exercise while done on one foot

A soothing cool-down period with slower music, deeper breathing, and for many of my clients, lying on the foam roller, is the best way to end their workout!

Kettlebell techniques (cardiosculpt), followed by abdominal work either with a stability ball for planks and crunches or pilates style ab work. Finish with a non-rushed yoga style stretch.

Variety and individualization make each workout great for my clients. They enjoy using different "toys" (BOSU, Kettlebells, Stability Balls, TRX etc), but what they love the most is how I tailor each workout to the individual. I have a plan for every exercise session, but I am always adapting, depending on how my client feels that day.

Pilates on the mat, apparatus and foam roller. I use the MELT method prior to beginning a session which preps the body well. I also infuse some more strength training techniques using the TRX straps, Bosu, Stability balls and weighted balls for a more challenging session.

Melt is very popular I'm hearing

Laura, are you familiar with work Hallee Altman has done to create MELT on Pilates? Uses MELT and a half foam roller to make Pilates mat work more precise and effective. She did a training with MELT trained and Pilates certified instructors in New York City this summer.

Everyone loves balance training. It's as challenging as you make it, and there's endless variety. The learning curve is quick so people see their skills improve fast.
Relating it to everyday living helps people understand that it's functional as well as fun.

The most popular is whatever they enjoy doing the most. Each client is different in goals, personality and reason for training.
Although we address all components of fitness the tools that are most enjoyed are the ones that facilitate a feeling of accomplishment. Often clients start training with a favorite workout but by being introduced to other venues they learn to enjoy different programs.
Muscle confusion is a philosophy I believe in- there are many ways to work out using a multitude of tools. We try to keep it exciting and productive to reaching the clients end goals.

I got a TRX for Christmas, and am continually learning new moves and challenges. My clients love it, as well as the used spin bikes I purchased from a club.

Most of my clients LOVE my "active recovery" exercises. After a challenging aerobic exercise or a high-intensity anaerobic challenge, I will have them perform some form of active recovery (towel catches, card catches, balancing etc.). It gives them a physical challenge that serves to take their mind off of how hard they're breathing (smile), gives them a physical challenge that incorporates a mental component/challenge, and it allows us to better utilize their training time rather than having them sit or stand around waiting until they catch their breath and are ready for their next exercise. My child clients, as well as my older adult clients all love it!

Most of my current clients are older adults (age 55-100) and/or have physical disabilities. I do train them on both health and motor skill components of physical fitness.

The most popular activities are dancing (different genres) and brain games (such as counting 1-20 and throwing fruit and veggie beanie babies into a bucket with the right hand and then with the left hand while screaming for your team)

I would have to say variety. It is more stimulating for the client when we use different tools in their workouts. The function of the muscle group doesn't change but in their minds their is a change.

I keep it simple, people come to me to get stronger. Statistically I have on average for my beginner to intermediate clients increased strength 30% on each major lift in 3 months and and high as a 50% gain in 3 months. I do all the fancy stuff as well(prehab, postural, core, foam roll, post rehab) but my clients learn to love the main lifts that everybody avoids...Squat, Deadlift, Bench Press, and Military Press of course I supplement that with a balanced agonist/antagonist volume and intensity program as well.

I have learned that people most enjoy seeing results no matter what the exercise.

Keeping it fun and safe with RESULTS is my main focus. I like to include ALL the tools along with the knowledge, to create a lifestyle CHANGE for my clients. If the client loves bigger challenges and wants to use i.e.kettlebells, it is my responsibilty to know how to properly use those tools and educate them.
