What Do You Think Is The Biggest Fitness Trend Of 2011?
Here today, gone tomorrow. That's how the cookie crumbles for many fitness trends like... ... Hmm, that's funny, I can't seem to remember. =) Some, like P90X, seem to be here to stay. What do you think has been the biggest fitness trend for this year so far, and why?
Hearing it mentioned so often during IDEA World indicated to me a shift in the way we to see the body and its functions. I hope that greater knowledge about fascia and fascial lines will help people in structural assessments and the resulting exercise recommendations.
Obviously, as a MELT Instructor, I am biased . The "M" in MELT stands for 'Myofascial', and I have made the subject of fascia a prime subject of my studies for the last two years. In fact, I wrote 2 blog entries about it. The first was prior to IDEA World titled "Fascia - a Cinderella Story" (a phrase I stole from Thomas Myers' article in the IDEA Fitness Journal). After returning from the conference, the title of my blog entry was "Fascia, Fascia Everwhere".
For anybody interested in learning more about this subject, I highly recommend Thomas Myers' "Anatomy Trains" and Gil Hedley's DVD set "The Integral Anatomy Series". The MELT method itself is a structured self-treatment for fascia.
Next in line would be energy bracelets, I saw a booth for those at the Fitness Fest in Scottsdale. These are a classic example of humans looking for a quick cheep fix. I also have an ACE article to go with this one! http://www.acefitness.org/certifiednewsarticle/1261/
Thanks for reading my two cents!
Fitness for the masses doesnt really work for everyone.
