So I say, start by writing yourself a very basic business plan. What do you want to do, and how do you plan to do it. I think that you're already on the right track because you obviously have the motivation. Again though, make sure that your certifications, licenses (if necessary) and basic business needs (such as liability insurance) are in order before you start.
I hope that this helps and good luck to you.
I changed my career path a couple years before turning 50 because I had it with my "desk job" and turned to my love of fitness. Women & men around my age seem to be comfortable working with me rather than the "young kids" (younger trainers).
If you have a difficult time trying to compete with the younger trainers in the commercial industry, might I suggest looking into corporate fitness! I love it!
Education is the only way to acquire more skills and abilities. I know that in my area, there is literally no one else with my skill set. No one can deliver the services that I can. It took time for people who need my services to see my ads or hear about what I provide. But once I was established and built a history of providing unmatched services, most of my business came to me by word of mouth.
I am as busy as I want to be. My workload cycles a bit, but I market/advertise my business just enough to keep my numbers where I want them. If things slow down more than expected, I would do more marketing in response.
