My mentors in the fitness industry are all Physical Therapist? What is wrong with this picture? Why not Fitness leaders?
Gary Gray PT (FAFS), Tom Purvis (RTS), John Iams PT (PRRT), Tom Dalonso-Baker PT (TMR), Scott Musgrave PT (AAT), Bill Machii DC, can someone name a leader in the Fitness Industry?

Peter and Kathie Davis. No offense intended to you, however, the fact that we have the opportunity to market and express our love and dedication to the industry on the IDEA Fitness Connect site, as a consequence of their hard work, shows me personally that they are leaders.
I personally don't think anything is "wrong" with whom you admire and chose to learn from as far as your professional development is concerned. From my perspective what is important is that you are growing and continually putting yourself in a position to provide safe and effective fitness/exercise programming to the public.
Peter and Kathie Davis, like the individuals you mentioned who are your mentors, recognized a need that needed to be filled and created this platform as well as certification courses that we can avail ourselves to if we choose to. We all benefit from their far-sightedness.

As fitness professionals, we should have different types of mentors.
Some of mentors should have degrees so that we can be educated in subjects such as exercise science.
Other mentors are great for improving communication skills, marketing, etc

People often confuse "personal trainer" to be "fitness enthusiast".
The best thing about working with a Physical Therapist is that these are people educated in preventing harm and recovering. Personal trainers are great at what they do, but having them learn how to not harm their clients is the best way to start.

There is nothing wrong with the picture. It seems to me that those are the people you have chosen as mentors because they are experts in a field that you were looking for mentoring. All of them are sharing part of their PT knowledge to help us becoming better personal trainers. Their area of expertise is the human body and the way it functions, and PT training is an excellent base for that.
There are others who are PhDs in exercise science who have greatly influenced me, and the first person to come to mind is Len Kravitz. I will never forget the first session I attended with him when he, in his very special way, described the metabolic pathways. I had stitches laughing and never forgot it.
At the last IDEA World Fitness Convention, I had the privilege to listen to the surgeon general Dr. Regina Benjamin who was very inspiring to me with her personal story and her vision for the future.
And I certainly agree with Joanne in singling out Kathie and Peter Davis as fitness industry leaders.
I believe there are many more, and we just pick and choose those that are the closest to our own wants and needs.

Have you tried to find a fitness leader for a mentor?

There are many fitness 'leaders' who may or may not have a PT. To my mind, a leader is someone who through their actions inspire us to follow, not someone who has a particular credential. You have to look no further than most well-respected fitness conferences and the many 'fitness' presenters to recognize some of the fitness industry leaders. Also, those who write on the subject, many of whom are fitness only professionals. These are just two examples of places where you can easily find fitness leaders. I think that it all depends upon how a person defines the term 'leader' and what it is they are looking to learn from that person.

I started to learn the tricks of our trade in personal training 12 years ago. That's the time when I met most of my mentors in the industry. But along the way, I've learned to choose wisely on who I should be looking up to for me to progress professionally & personally. With a bachelors degree in physical therapy in hand, It helped me to see and separate the 'outstanding' from the other trainers who could have been my mentors based on their knowledge, personality & fitness service. So, i don't think that there's something wrong in the picture to have physical therapists as fitness leaders - as long as we learn from these mentors how we can safely and efficiently help our clients achieve fitness goals then I'll give my two thumbs up for them... but, if these mentors can also help me to be a better trainer, then all the respect and gratitude is there for me to give them.
