Mobile training without a car?
I would love to do more mobile training, but currently I am without a car (it is broken down and costs too much to fix). I live in Baltimore where public transit is pretty decent, but I would imagine that I can only go so far before taking public transit would be an obstacle to productivity (it is now that it takes me an hour to get to work at the gym). I'm sure I can carry resistance tubing and other lightweight equipment with me but does anyone have any practical ideas for starting my mobile business without a car (which will help me make enough money to buy a small cheap car)? Thanks in advance!

How about traveling with a folding bike and a backpack? That would allow you to take the subway, buses, ... while getting some extra training yourself on the way to seeing your clients. You'd also be a role model.
Another idea is to try getting into a residential building where they have a club house or fitness room. Less traveling, word of mouth advertising once you are in, time and gas savings, ... it's a win-win!
Hope this helps!

Wendy, you have a challenging situation.
I looked at your profile and noticed that you have two very different degrees. If I remember, you shared with the IDEA Fitness Connect community that you overcame obesity.
Have you ever thought about focusing on the communities where you are most familiar? History buffs (perhaps you can market your services to individuals in responsible positions at historical societies and do the same among individuals with an interest in business administration.
Perhaps you can include a blog on your IDEA Fitness Connect profile regarding health conscious historical figures. I don't know who they are but I am sure you can find a correlation. Targeted marketing is designed to reach a specific population. Perhaps it might be a good idea to hold a boot camp based upon a historical event. You might need to be really creative.
Hope this is helpful to you.

I do have two different degrees, but considering where I got them and when I got them, I don't see that as too big of a deal. Besides, when I studied history, I focused more on religious history. My Master's degree is going to be in Church Ministries specializing in youth ministry in urban populations.
I am looking around my immediate area to see what I can do, I just want to draw out some ideas I may not have thought of already!
My current blog does have some historical aspect to it depending on my post, but I feel like I need to create a different blog.

Can you offer fitness training at your church? I know this is not mobile but what I think is that you can earn some money and that your clients may live nearby thus being more accessible to you. Some of them may become personal training clients in their homes. I also know that people will help people trying to do right. But you have to let them know what you are doing and what the need is. Does your Pastor need a Trainer? Offer to train him or her at the church. Tell them what is going on and remain in prayer. God will hear you and answer your prayer.
What about the youth in urban populations? Where do they meet and can you do training there for them or their parents? If you start offering your services in these areas, opportunities will arise to help you get your car fixed. "Ask and it shall be given unto you, seek and ye shall find..."
One last thing is, I had a similar situation a few months ago. I had to replace the whole Powertrain computer in my car ($977.66.) I have a Master's degree, Bachelor's degree, and a CPT, but I took a part time job as a Health, Wellness, and Beauty Advisor through the Crossmark company because I could get it immediately and get my car fixed. I advised people on Health and Wellness, Beauty related topics and gave advice on diet and exercise. I was able to get my car fixed in about 6 weeks. I had to take the bus ( two hours both ways) in the meantime, but whatever. The Lord is able. I did what I needed to do and now I can drive to any client I want to. Just a suggestion, I will keep you in prayer.

Hi Wendy,
funny you mention your blog. I looked at it and thought that more exercise-related subjects would be a good choice. I write a blog myself which is here on IDEA FitnessConnect. I try to stay with subjects of exercise, nutrition and lifestyle, and, while I am not shy of stating personal opinions, I make an effort that they are not intruding on somebody else.

Hi Wendy how are things going lately? If you are a very religious person maybe you could find clients who believe in God and offer free consultation to church members after service? It's not a good idea to mix religion and business publicly but on an individual basis it could work. I know of a bodybuilder who trained the pastor's entire family and some other church members. The pastor even mentioned the training sessions during a sermon when he was talking about using the gifts that God has given us. That church was big on supporting each others businesses and there was a bulletin board for business cards. You might even find that your client is also a mentor to you in a non-exercise related domain.
I agree with this. You have to be very business like though because people will try to get you to do everything for free because they are a "non-profit." You on the other hand are a for profit business, so do offer your services for pay. If you want to do some ministry, you might consider offering a free class or group during the week.
