I never heard of them either, but I went to their web site and saw a few things that concerned me and would not lead me to pursue this certification:

I only ever saw one name on the web site, Dimitri Onyskow, who is ACSM certified as a personal trainer (2004) and has a degree in Health and Fitness (2007). Even though the courses are CeC providers for reputable organizations, I felt there was a little too much marketing. They do not require any pre-requisite certifications to become a posture specialist

Maybe it is their web presence that made me uneasy; there may be more to them than can be learned by talking to the group.

I've recently been wondering the same thing. It definitely isn't a well-known certification, but if you're a personal trainer it would likely teach you more about posture than you already know. It would look reputable whether it is or isn't. The site tries to make it sound as if they are a national organization (i.e. from the government, along the lines of the AMA, FDA, etc.), but I don't find anything that really says they are.

Do get it if you need more knowledge concerning posture and you feel you could use it in your marketing.

Don't get it if you are hoping people recognize the certification.

Hello Jane,

I am actually the Assistant Director of Academic Relations for the National Posture Institute. I am glad to answer any questions you may have related to the National Posture Institute or the Certified Specialist Program.

Here is a little information about the program.
The organization deals with educating individuals on posture and body alignment through our Certified Posture Specialist program. The program is designed to educate individuals in the exercise sciences, how to conducting postural assessments including static, dynamic, ergonomic, ADL, seated, and lying, how to develop exercise programs (sequence/progressions), and how to implement a posture based business model into your facility/practice.

Understanding posture is the most crucial assessment and is the most important tool in developing and sequencing any exercise program. Without a proper alignment you are just adding mass onto a unsteady frame. Whether you are an professional athlete, bodybuilder, senior, adolescent, adult - posture plays an integral role in your life. Whether it is for stability and balance, to prevent musculoskeletal disorders, to function better, to perform better, to look better, or for overall well being and health - posture is the foundation of the body and should be considered a priority with not only exercise program but activities of daily living and your occupation.

This is a little bit about the what it is we do and some of visions. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Fuel the Movement,
JM
