When naming your business, have it reflect your personality, strengths and what is unique about you. I found the names for my businesses by really listening to the words I was using to describe my business. And I listened to how other people described my business, my personality, how I made them feel. A great exercise for creating a business name is... write down all the words that describe what your personal training business is about. From there, you will come up with a lot of different ideas. One piece of advice, if you are going to use your name, I would add words like fitness, fitness training, personal training to your name. That way, people will instantly know you are a personal training business. Good Luck with the your new business venture.

I stuck with my own name, it will always fit no matter what path it takes. I hear some of my friends joke about how no one knows their business name, as fancy and clever as it is. In this industry you are really selling yourself and I think a name works well, with Debi's advice about adding fitness to it. People will usually refer you to friends by your personal name, not your business name... "You have to workout with Laura, she is great!" That's what they will say!

My husband and I recently purchased “Counting Reps to Revenue” which is a series of DVD’s geared towards those of us in the health and fitness industry by Alwyn and Rachel Cosgrove (the owners of Results Fitness in the States). We just watched his lecture on marketing the other night and this is something he actually spoke about. He had some pretty valid points like don’t use your personal name, and don’t try to be cute. His main takeaway (in terms of naming your business) was that someone should be able to read it and know what you do because people don’t (and won’t spend the time to figure it out).
He also had a great point of trying to stay away from things like 'consulting' or 'training' because they can easily be confused - like what type of consulting or training do you do? Is it for a corporate company? It just isn't very clear. He also said, in terms of marketing that the word 'gym' is hot again.
Hope that helps!

The one you like best! Ideally, it captures a mood and an essence of what you do (i.e., you're not always having to explain it). Also, people have to remember it!

I would either just use your name or a name that embodies your focus.

Your business name should indicate what type of service that you are offering. Including your name will be great. Have a name that you can live with forever and that you can add other components to it.
My DBA is

I do a lot of stuff under that name

Have a easy website.
Some trainers use their name but it's doesn't tell what type of business that you are offering

Hi Laura. Choose a name that epitomizes who you are or what your primary focus is/will be. Either something dynamic, something descriptive, or something easy to remember would be a great choice in my opinion.

I started a corporation with one name and add assumed names for each each sub sect I want aknowledged seperately. Its not difficult to keep up with (in fact, it helps me catagorize) and leaves you with a plethora of options.

I usually refer to my name, but I do have a DBA: Signature Fitness Consulting. I chose that because I wanted people to understand from the name that I everything is tailored to the client just as everyone's signature is unique. I also put consulting in the name so that I wouldn't feel bound to just training time but rather include workshops and seminars to my services.

I would suggest naming your PT business something congruent to your location and service based on SEO. I am sure you will have a website and you definitely want to near the top on the search rankings. Pick a niche with whatever SEO combo that is most tailored to your location and service!

All great answers. I think the one important consideration is that your company name reflect what business you are in. Short, as Susan suggests, is also important.
Good luck in your new venture!
