I am a personal trainer in Miami, want to start my own business. What permits and licenses do I need to do so.
I know I need a business license, but do I need an LLC? Do I need to deal with zoning if I am training people at the home or gyms? I have a tax id number already. Just want to know what legal papers I need in order to work as a personal trainer in Miami, Florida.
Do you have an accountant who can help you with these questions? If not you need to find one because he/she will know all the proper forms you will need in order to be operational and legally protected (at least as far as the federal, state and municipality fees and permits). Also, talking to a small business lawyer would also be a good idea. Each town, municipality and state are different and have their own regulations.
I hope this helps.
Depending on your towns zoning ordinances, you may or may not be able to run a business out of your home.
If you are working in a gym as an independent contractor this is an entirely different situation.
you can get a lot of this information by contacting the government agencies that regulate business, probably the Secretary of State. They can point you in the right directions. Possibly, you may find that you want to use an accountant to help you, but I would suggest that you obtain much of the information yourself because it is simply cheaper. Here is one website I found with a simple google search http://www.wikihow.com/Set-up-a-Sole-Proprietorship-in-Florida. There were plenty more where that came from.
As Susan suggests, you can also check with the city on questions of zoning, particularly if you plan to run a business out of your home. In many places, one-on-one training is not a problem in a residential area. However, they usually do not allow a club with a lot of traffic.
After you have made yourself more knowledgeable, you can always get a accountant for the finishing touches.
I wish you good luck and success in your business.
