I get $22 per class and free membership for myself and my husband. Our club is nationwide and we have all club access.
We also get paid now for "off time" such as reporting facility issues and stuff like that.
I have not had an increase in 6 years.

Recreation centers, YMCA facilities, various clubs all have different pay scales depending on your level of certification, years of experience, specialty, etc. You should contact places you are interested in to see what each place can offer you.

In South Florida, economical situation is not in its best shape.
Most clubs are paying about $20. per hour, and that Iif you have a National Certification, if you are not then the pay is lower.
It does generally allows you to be able o workout for free, and some companies give you, access to free workshops. At the beginning of this year I waas making $25. things have gone for the worse. Forget about a raise, how about keeping the job. Good Luck!

As an owner of a fitness consulting business, I typcially start my instructors out at $25-30 per class, depending on the class. Some of my instructors are up to $40-45, mainly for special classes like yoga.

It varies by which part of the country you live in. We have a starting rate of $10.00 per hour, free membership and we pay for all trainings. So it is pretty good package. They have to be Y related trainings. When I was in TN I made MUCH more!!!

On the average $10.00 - $35.00 in a regular fitness setting.
In private studios, schools, self-employed *35.00 - 100.00

Depending on the class I teach, it's $22.50 or $25.00. Also a free membership, and I don't have to pay for CPR and AED. For mandatory meetings and similar stuff, there is an established hourly rate which is around $19.00.
However, there is one big benefit for me because I have my onw business as a personal trainer and have my own studio. I cannot count the number of clients I got through the exposure I get as a group exercise instructor. However, I limit the number of classes I teach so not to interfere with my 'real' job.

The high-end gyms here in NY pay $50 per class.
If it is a corporate client desires to hire my company, I bill $100 per class.
My nursing homes I bill $75 per hour and they pay for other reasonable expenses associated with providing services to the nursing homes.
It all depends on what you negotiate.

If it's group ex, then it's about $28 per class, but if I sub a class in the small group personal training studio, then it's less. But there are instructors at my gym who make more per class because of their experience and background.

They pay of a group fitness instructor should be dependent on number of students you attract to their class. If you are a great instructor then you are an asset to the club and you should be compensated more.
At www.FriendsBFit.com we keep a very small % of the revenue earned thus if you have 20 students per class and you charge $10 per class you will take more more than $150..
How do we do this, we are an online gym where we have built the technology where you can conduct a live group fitness class right from your home, so there is no commuting. also you can have clients from all over the US. Contact me if you are interested at info@ffriendsbfit.com

$25.00-$100.00 depending on location/format/attendance

When I managed a studio the starting rate was $35 per hour and up
Because I was also a group exercise leader, I knew the value of a good teacher and what they would bring to the studio.
I know it was on the high end but retention was also high
Like most teachers, this is a very underpaid position!

It depends if you are independent or working for a corporation. It will vary. If you are independent, then your potential income is unlimited. However, take that with a grain of salt, as you are fully responsible for your own clients and class attendance, which may vary depending on your reputation in your local community. You may also be responsible for gym rental expenses as an independent.
If you are working for a fitness corporation or gym owner, then you will more than likely be capped at a certain $ amount. The corporation takes a percentage of revenue of the classes as a profit (that is usually very much in their favor) and then obviously has to pay the government a percentage for taxes. After that, you receive your net income. Unless you work as a contractor, then you have to keep track of your own taxes.
At higher end clubs, which is where I use to work, you could probably expect anywhere from $30-$75 per hour.
This was just from my experiences working as a bootcamp instructor in different clubs and various locations.
Hope this helps!
