Question asked by Lawrence with Gym Insight 203 days ago
How is your membership based business (health club or personal trainer) preparing for the New Year's business rush?!
Please be as specific as possible:
Are you re-evaluating your payment processing service?
Are you trying to find a better system to prevent transcription errors on membership contracts?
Are you trying to assess your financial stance in order to provide your club realistic goals for the new year?
Are you trying educate yourself and your staff more about the most important business aspects/strategies/knowledge to keep your club successful?

Hi Lawrence. Taking time to review all programs that I offer (which ones have been successful, which ones not), marketing efforts (which ones have generated additional business), my future equipment needs (based on my current and future plans/offerings), and reviewing my pricing model are all things that I perform at the end of the year in preparation for the coming year.
I hope that this helps.

Thanks LaRue. I did not think about equipment projections for the following year.

Hey Lawrence- have you also been tracking and evaluating membership retention as part of your financial plan? For some business, this may cut more costs more than fixing all processing errors (assuming they are small).
Let your staff be apart of goal setting for next year. Review last years memberships or training sessions and come up with monthly goals that encourage growth next year. Work though challenges as they arise and celebrate accomplished goals together.
To keep it fun, we just had a great brainstorming session where the personal trainers came up with new ideas for the group exercise instructors and vice-verse. It was great to get professional opinions from outside of the box.

Hi Mandy,
I absolutely track and evaluate retention with Insight. In fact, I developed software for my gym that does just that and attrition as well as many other financial stats that you can view anytime and from anywhere! It even tracks PT info, commissions, my club's goals and how to remain accountable to them... so I do not have to wait till the end of the year (per say) to do so or to wait on information from another source to evaluate it.
Good idea with the brainstorming!
If you have a second, check out Insight, my gym management system at:

And my other software services including professional sales contract engine, check-in software, and payment processing:

Good luck with the new year prep!

oh very cool- do you work with NPS data?

Mandy,
Not too sure what "NPS data" is...?
But hopefully I can still answer your questions. I own a gym but first and foremost I am a software developer. So when I decided to start my own gym, I wanted to build it from the ground up, including all the tech stuff. So now I use my gym as a showcase for my fitness industry software as a service products!

Net Promoter Score or NPS is used to study customers as Promoters, Passives, and Detractors. I eat, sleep and breath that darn number at my airline and my YMCA also utilizes it. Your plan with stats, attrition along with NPS sounds like the perfect recipe. I am no longer in a position to secure management systems, however, I am intrigued with your site and will be sure to pass your information along if any friends are looking for solutions.

Hello Lawrence,
I am studying hard to get the education done before my schedule fills up more. Thanks for the reminders.
Take care.

I always base my business on balance, I don't want to get so busy that I can't give my clients all of my focus and energy.
I think it's always good practice to analyze your financial stance throughout the year and adjust accordingly.

I think just looking at your business and taking the next logical step will tell you what to do.
After some careful thought, I decided to try a new website design focused on more informational specs then sales specs for my gym management software...
I ventured into your profile, which then led me to your website. You have an awesome design as well as service! Its very unique and looks like it is family run.
What would be your next logical step in your business?
Is your fitness business studio based?
Happy New Year!

I am always seeking new education, but there are many other facets to staying ahead of the competition. I use many tools such as a website and social media such as Facebook to keep potential clients aware of my business. Keeping these sites up to date is a must for me. Adding new education to a resume or offering new incentives are a must.
Thank you Scott! I actually just posted another question that deals with a new website design for the new year! Education in our industry is a revolving door and must always be moving...
Your response is valued.
Happy New Year!
