Question asked by Bridget Eason 184 days ago
How do I find a private gym/studio in my area that will rent to me hourly or monthly?
I am a newly independent trainer and have looked for places online without success. Am I just not wording my Google Searches correctly? Are there specific sites I can go to?

Hello Bridget,
Congratulations.
Have you looked in the phone book? You can also ask at doctors' offices who are part of the allied health team. You may do best with a map and driving around with your eyes wide open.
Take care.

Hi Bridget,
have you tried this web site here? You can search 'Find a Gym' within FitnessConnect. I did that based on the ZIP code on your profile, and a whole list of facilities (including personal training studios) were springing up.
Wish you good luck.

I ask other trainers where they train
I googled all of the gyms in my area and made appointments to speak with the owners.
Not all studios are set up for rental situations, so if you google studios that rent, they won't show.
Definitely take Karin's advice and use FitnessConnect, it's great

Hello, I used my human friends network to help me find my original location. Being vocal with others in the profession will definitely aid you.
Other than that, I have used this resource to search local resources or let your feet hit the streets. This is part of the work that goes in to being "independent," not really hard laborious work but time consuming.
If you find a local don't just settle b'cause u have been looking & finally found a location or two, can wind up being the worst mistake u could make... trust me here
LOCATION MATTERS!!!!!!

I suggest you do a google search for gyms/studios in your area. Once you have a list, then create a resume and stop by the studio/gym location to drop it off. If it's a large gym then you might need to contact the manager to fill out an application. As a studio owner, I appreciate the time and attention it takes to visit my studio to introduce yourself and ask questions. An owner may not have an opening right that moment, but they will remember you vs. just getting a generic email inquiry.

Hi Bridget,
There are some very good answers here. I also like Fitness Connect because it's a great way when looking for gym or other trainers in your area. Another option would be for you to try and train your clients at their own location or home. Since you are an independent trainer you can do some networking by joining a business networking group and get some leads. If you don't mind driving to different places, you can make a lot more money this way and you won't have to pay anyone rent. You can grow your business and maybe one day you can have trainers working for you :-)!
Best,
Harris

In addition to the ideas above, good ol' craigslist will have a few things you can look into.

Look up all the owners in your area and give them a call, make a deal.

I'd say drop by the gyms with a resume or two in hand. Gyms are usually always open to bringing on new trainers.
