how can I quickly determine the amount of calories a person should eat per body weight
I remember reading that a person who weighs 150 lbs. but wants to weigh 130, should eat about 1,300. cal/day. Sounds too easy... I would like a formula that approximates the calorie intake necessary based on the person's weight.

There is a formula, but I prefer to use the Mayo Clinic Web site. It is reputable and I have compared it to manual calculations and have found it to be accurate as well. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/calorie-calculator/NU00598

I just read that a man needs to eat 11 calories per pound of body weight to fuel his system. It didn't say what the amount was for women, and the article was discussing metabolism.

For women: Multiply the wehgt in pounds by 10 plus the weight again. For men plus the weight two times.
Example for woman: 125 lbs X 10 = 1250 + 125 = 1375 cals
Example for man: 180 lbs X 10 = 1800 +180 =1980 + 180 = 2160 cals
