I have. I actually screen clients now and only take the clients that fit within my niche.

I am not a fan of Jack of all Trade type trainers. Be the very best within a specific niche and refer out. Build a strong referral network.

I see lots of trainers that are afraid to let go of or turn down clients because they want to fill their time. This fear will keep them from filling their time with the clientele that they are passionate about.

Not specific to weight loss, I have conferenced with a client explaining that I no longer could help her because no matter how hard I tried to keep with my training session with her she would rather spend her hour wanting personal counseling. I explained that I was hired by her for training and not counseling and could no longer provide my services to her and that personal counseling was not within my scope of practice.

I once had a client who was consistently 20 or more minutes late for a one hour session. After a year of this, I made the choice to fire her. This is the way I did it: I reminded her that I was a specialist in working with people with injuries (very true) and that she was past the point now of needing my teaching. I suggested that she would do better and get more out of it to work with a teacher who could challenge her in the ways she needed challenging. I suggested a teacher who I thought would work, and this client followed my suggestion.

I have not, but doesn't mean sometime you may need to part ways with a client for whatever reason(personality conflict, lack of motivation, etc.)
