Has anyone used any type of decibal meter for volume control, other than a hand held device?

Instead of a hand held device that will measure the sound decibal, has anyone used something that is more visible (for ex, like a stop light)...if you're getting too loud, it goes to yellow and then red? Green would be you're at the correct level.

http://www.dak.com/reviews/3275story.cfm I have used stereo equipment similar to this not sure if that is quite what you are looking for but it measures decibels and does a led level meter.
