GFMs ... What is your preferred method of communication with your team?

Program Director or ManagerGroup Fitness

Would love to help provide ideas and solutions to your communication needs if you're interested. After 15 years of struggling to find the answers, I've come up with a few solutions I think are extremely beneficial.

Hi Shannon! I send a weekly email with program updates, announcements, etc. Each email has the same subject line plus the date (example: SouthFit Notes, 7/20/11), so they get consistency. The email is also very brief, so it doesn't take them long to read.

While each instructor is responsible for finding his/her own subs, if I need to find a sub I send a mass text to the instructors who teach that particular format. I can usually find a sub in less than 15-20 minutes.

Always looking for a more efficient way though. :)

I have not tried groupexpro...I see your FB posts on it though. What are the costs of that program? You can send me a message via FB if you'd like.

For me, the method that is most effective with the audience that I'm dealing with. For example, if my method is electronic, many of the younger trainers may be more prone to receiving a text message or Facebook posting than they would a "dinosaur" email :-) While I may prefer in-person communication with the group, the reality of the matter is that with conflicting schedules and availability, sometimes that is not possible. In my opinion, the purpose of my communications is to ensure that people actually receive them, so, again, whatever my audience is most apt to receive is what I will use.

Text or via email, some people we train also go with text, or phone calls.

Face to face is my preferred method. It allows for feedback, clarifications, brainstorming, and relationship building. I have had misunderstanding arise from unclear expectations, and role responsibilities. Also, I find it best to ask the group the method they prefer and go with it.
