For 2012, what's new and gaining interest in group exercise?
Are clubs asking for anything specific?

Group fitness classes specific to post rehab clientele. For example.
Post rehab classes specific for population who have undergone the following interventions:
1. Knee replacement
2. Shoulder surgery (dislocation, rotator cuff tears, impingement)
3. Low back pain
4. Hip replacement
I say this as the post rehab population really don't have a place to turn after they have completed rehabilitation with a physical therapist once their insurance no longer covers it.

Even though I am so far only one of a handful of MELT (Myofascial Energetic Length Technique) instructors, I believe that this modality as group instruction will gain a lot of interest. I have a growing number of loyal followers. And Sue Hitzman is busy training new instructors.
Incidentally, a lot of my participants are coming with problems that Joanne has listed. MELT is a modality that allows people of such variety of problems to be in one class together and all walking out feeling better.

It has been my experience teaching group exercise in a corporate fitness facility that members want FUN classes! We don't ASK rather we LISTEN!
Classes are usually 30-40 min. during lunch hours so it is important that our members get a good workout and have some fun & stress relief mid-day.
The all time favorites of Kickboxing, Zumba, Pilates, Yoga, Body Sculpt, etc are still very popular but seem to be evolving to incorporate new moves and equipment. The idea is not to reinvent the wheel, just attach it to a new wagon!

MORE DANCE BASED FITNESS CLASSES, i.e. Flirty Girl, Bad Kitty, Zumba and its many amalgamations, etc.....

Dance based fitness classes are huge in the female sector right now and self defense/combat sport conditioning classes are picking up across the board. As Debbie already stated, 30-40 minutes around the lunch hour is ever so popular for relieving stress and monotony.

tough to say...dance(zumba) is cleaning up and only looks to gain steam. Also what Stephen had mentioned about combat type of classes.
