Timothy,
It is important that you look at the profile of the personal trainer when you locate one in your area.
From your photo, it looks like you play football and are likely well conditioned and accustomed to training at a high level. Seems to me that you will need a Certified Sports Conditioning Coach or a Performance Enhancement Specialist as opposed to a Personal Trainer.
Be sure to check his or her profile to determine if he/she is CPR AED certified, has insurance, has verifiable credentials as an NSCA CSCS or NASM Performance Enhancement Specialist and lastly has experience in sports conditioning.
I sure hope this is helpful to you.

Simply setting out a wide net is the best way to go. Get into health online networks and maybe contact a few gyms or physical health occupations- physical therapy offices are a good start.

Timothy, you have come to the right place! Search for a certified and accredited fitness professional right here at Ideafit. I think they now have the search on the home page. There are all kinds of trainers and professionals here. Let me know if I can help.

Timothy,
This site so happens to be perfect for locating a health professional in your area. Once you do find local fitness professionals you must now examine their credentials. In the fitness world there are a vast amount of personal training certifications one can attain. However, these are definitely not created equal. Here is a quick article link discussing this point.

I would say there are a couple of key things you can look at it which can make a GIANT difference in what you get for your money. 1. Do they have a Bachelors Degree in a Science or Health related field? 2. Are they certified by one of the most reputable and prominent certifying agencies. For Sports fitness you would be suited best to a Strength Coach. CSCS certification. 3. Look at their work experience. Sometimes education and certifications can be deceiving. If they have worked in a variety of settings they most likely have a more complete knowledge in helping you attain your specific goals.

Hello Timothy,
There are many sources; IDEA is a very good one. Talk to the gym owners and members in your area. Have a meet and greet to see how you click with a trainer before settling on one.
Good luck to you.

I would first check with your local gyms and health clubs. Ask for recommendations. Also check http://www.ideafit.com/fitnessconnect. Check for experience and feed back. Good luck :)

This site is a great resource when looking for a trainer. Another option is to join a gym and look for a trainer there or you can post an ad on Craigslist. Also, the different fitness organizations have a list of trainers who are certified though them and are posted on the web sites.
