Does anyone know the legality for offering child care at fitness facilities, licensing etc.?
I read that this varies state by state. Gyms that offer child care aren't regulated like child care facilities because they don't have the kids for more than 3 hours at a time. How do you know a gym can be trusted with your kid?
I would want to make sure I trusted the people before I left my kids there. I would start with an hour.
Well how do you know a daycare center can be trusted with your child? How do you know you can trust a baby sitter or nanny? You do your homework, ask other parents, talk to who is running the program, go observe whoever is with the kids at the facility and see what they are doing. One of the potential bonuses with a gym that will look after kids is that they may have them more involved with games that are active and exercise oriented.
I would meet the caregiver (s) first. See how she or he interacts with the kids. Check the cleanliness. Look for how happy the kids are. Ask questions; how do they deal with a crying child, bathroom, snacks, tv (what shows/videos do they allow), security etc. You can see if they will let you stay with the child for a trial period before leaving him or her. There really is no perfect way to tell.
