No, not at all. I don't train at the studio I work at, so I'm not viewed as a personal trainer, just a regular chick doing her workout. Honestly, I think it's cool when people ask me about what I'm doing...I can introduce people to new stuff in a very casual way.

Please know that I never refer people to me or my business during these casual exchanges, I think that's very bad form.

I am a firm believer in what I was taught by my Dad when I was growing up...

"You can't give away what you don't own."

It's a compliment when one can teach another. Not only does it help the individual seeking new knowledge, but it reinforces what you already own.

Hello Monica,
I dont mind it..I take it as a compliment and a business opportunity. I always follow up with that person when I see them again.

Sincerely,

When I used to train clients at a gym, it was always obvious that I was there as a trainer. Sometimes people asked me while I was with a client, and those inquiries I usually defered until I was available unless it was a 'yes' or 'no' answer.

When I had time, though, I was happy to answer any question that was thrown my way. I feel that we can always learn from questions because it may force us to look at something from a new angle.

Definitely not. Often, I encourage it. Just not when I'm actively with a client. That's when you hand them a business card and let them know the answer is just a phone call away.

I love when people ask me questions. Whether I'm dressed in my PT uniform or not, I take any and all questions. I've also seen trainers, when asked a question when they are with a client, incorporate that answer into what they are doing with the client so both people get helped at the same time.

When I first began personal training I did, because I felt as if i was giving away my services for free. But as I grew professionally I began to understand you have to give a little to get! Many people don't understand (a lot of trainers not all) are very knowledgeable individuals, not just people who count reps for you. By answering their question you began to develop a relationship with the person, and show them you really are knowledgeable in your field. So even if that person doesn't become your client-they might tell someone about you who is looking for a good trainer. It's a win/win!

Not at all. Many times they may have MANY more questions and may need guidance. This is a great opportunity to build some rapport and prove your worth, hopefully leading to a sale.
