No. I like to keep it clean. Very often one benefits while the other doesn't and then a potential client and/or friend is lost. If I want something they have and feel their fee is reasonable, I'd rather pay ~ and be paid. Lines and boundaries are clear. I'm always up for clarity.

yes, i trade personal training services or dance technique classes for use of studio space at dance studios when i need to rehearse for upcoming performances. I know the women that run some of the studios and it saves me money in the long run.

I find bartering for Private Yoga and classes can often be beneficial to both parties...especially in a bad economy. It allows some clients to continue their instruction during times it may not be financially possible.

So long as I have the time to trade, I love bartering. My favorite is to barter with business or life coaches. I've done this several times and it always propels me forward in my business.

I've been in a bartering position with my hairdresser for about five years. Other than that, I've bartered to have my interior trim and doors painted and once for a family portrait. I also bartered by teaching a basic class monthly at an all-women's gym for the ability to train clients in that facility rent free.

I've found bartering to open doors to additional clients.

Yes, but don't make a habit of it. Maybe trade a training session for a massage, but don't trade your life away.

I think it can be smart decision if used wisely and with caution. I know trading services helped lead me to many successes in not only monetary benefits but also into new clients!

I have of sorts. It was not so much bartering but monthly accounting when we looked at the bottom line and paid for the balance on services who ever that happened to be.

I have not done it in years, and I would not engage into a relationship of that basis.

Hi Stacy Rae. I recently answered a similar question. I've not bartered or traded services, but I can remember several years ago, that was a big thing. But I also seem to remember that there was a lot of controversy over the tax implications of bartering, so I'd recommend talking to your tax adviser about this if you choose to do it. Better be safe than sorry!

Anyone dealt with training while working as an employee of a club? I have a trainer who is moving onto our club staff and she has some clients who do trades. I am not sure what to do about it. I don't mind her trading, but the club still needs to get reimbursed since we don't benefit from the trade.
