Consider taking a Zumba Gold class--many gyms now offer this lower-impact, less intense form of Zumba-for beginners like you.

No matter what style(s) of Latin dance that you plan to teach, get some training from a Latin dance educator. Find some mentors that can truly break down the Elements of Dance (Energy/Force, Time and Space). Not all Latin dance fitness instructor understand the true style of Latin dance or other genres of dance. A lot of them use improper terminology.
Just because one can yell out Salsa and perform it well doesn't mean one can teach efficiently.
Break it down:
Quick (one beat), Quick (one beat), Slow (2 beats)
You can start the pattern on Count One or Count Two.
I have been teaching different genres of dance for over 25 years. It takes a lot of training, to be a dance educator.
