Consider taking a Zumba Gold class--many gyms now offer this lower-impact, less intense form of Zumba--perfect for beginners like you.

Any Zumba Fitness class will do...just keep in mind you do not have to know how to dance...just as long as you move. For any Zumba Fitness or Specialty class you may take...if this is your first time...it may take some getting used to. Take your time...go at your own pace and enjoy the music. Know that you WILL get the steps...it takes time. The 'dancing' is an actual work-out...designed to incorporate all of your major muscles and core...it's wonderful. Please..do not get discouraged..just keep at it....and HAVE FUN!!

Zumba Basic 1 is for instructors level. You cannot guarantee that a Basic Zumba class is going to be for beginners.

To make a correction, Zumba gold, as Stephanie and Jeanette pointed, out are beginner classes. They are NOT just for seniors. I am a Gold Instructor as well as licensed in Zumba Basic, Zumba Basic 2, and Zumbatomic.

I do have lots of beginners in my class, BUT, I am an experience Group Ex instructor and teach to different levels within my classes. I know instructors who only have been to Basic 1 and they are doing some really fast stuff, so that is not a criteria.

Gold, which I believe they(ZO) are trying to call it something else, is for beginners or seniors, those who have limited mobility, those in wheelchairs, you can do it in a chair. If you have taken the Gold, it is no different, except you have been shown modifications to avoid injuries to your students. The class is still peppy and fun!

I am also a Silver Sneakers Instructor which is for Seniors but I get a lot of younger people in here too.

So please note there is really no beginner or advanced Zumba classes. There are Zumba classes and Zumba Gold classes. Zumbatomic for kids!!!! You just have to try it out and see if it is for you, if the regular Zumba class is too hard, then look for the Zumba Gold class in your area. Go to Zumba.com and search in your location, then you can search for class in your area. If you notice, it will say, Aqua, Zumba, Zumba gold, Zumbatomic, Zumba Toning.

Zumba Basics 1 is more of a beginner's class, Zumba Gold is for seniors typically but often beginners will go to learn the basics, and Zumba Toning is a good way to start out as well. Check with your local recreation center, YMCA and Craigs List for beginner classes. If you have a membership to a gym you can see if they offer a range of classes. Also, contact any Zumba certified instructor to find out about Zumba parties. It's a fun, non intimidating way to enjoy Zumba as well (and often with prizes and snacks).
