Hi Susan. I raised my rates in 2011 and have left them flat this year. I don't anticipate raising my rates in 2012 because generally I don't raise them EVERY year, but instead revisit my rates about every 1.5 - 2 years.

I hope this helps.

As a new trainer, I am already extremely affordable. Due to 1) an increase in people desiring personal training at my gym and 2) my own interest in getting clients who are committed, my rates will go up by 25-50% in March, which actually sounds like a lot, but it's actually still the lowest pricing in town. I will be charging the same that the local university charges their students/faculty/members.

I did not raise rates, it is driven by type of client, length of training obligation and type of training services offered.

I have higher rates for new clients but keep the structure the same for existing ones. This is on the rationale that those clients, some of which I have trained for more than a decade, have helped me built my business, and this is my way of honoring their loyalty.

You make good point Karin, I too have clients that have been with me for decades, I rarely raise their rates, however I did raise my new client rate this year.

I sure hope one day I'll be able to say that I have a couple of clients that I've trained for more than a decade! =)

Well, age has its advantages. It I got my math right, you were still working on your three Rs when I started training (and that was my second career). Just give it another decade :-)
