You would have to add up the cost of materials to prepare for the test; the manual is the most important. The more resources you purchase, the more likely you will pass. Depends on how what type of learner you are and how much experience you have already. Then you will have to pay for the test, which is $249 for the American Council on Exercise. You might also need more preparation after you are certified to feel ready and patch up any weaknesses before you go public.

It does depends on the fitness training agency.

You can answer 10 questions and pay $99.00 or 200 for $600.00 total incl. manual

I believe it is most important that the certification is nationally accredited and there are just a few that are affordable.

This is a very good site which offers comparisions

Depends on the certification! I prefer Pilates certifications which can add up in thousands. Whatever price you pay, you are investing in yourself, and you are worth it!

Do some research, if you're going to get Certified by all means do it with a highly accredited organization, one that will offer you CEC's and ongoing Educational resources.

Being certified doesn't make you a great trainer but a great trainer just gets better with the best certification

Besides, you can write off the expense on your taxes!
