Question asked by Janisha Gilbert 365 days ago
Can I get zumba certification at home?
There are very rarely zumba certification opportunities around where I live. May I do an "at home" training to gain a certification?

Unfortunately not, Janisha. And by the way Zumba doesn't certify anyone. It's just a license to teach their format and to use the Zumba trademark.
I looked at your profile and see that you have an ACE Personal Training certification. ACE is a certifying body, not Zumba.

No, you must go to a Zumba Fitness program. Go to Zumba.com for a list of classes, including Basic, Gold, Aqua Zumba, Zumbatomics and Zumba Toning. You must first complete Zumba Basic before you can aquire any other Zumba licenses.

Zumba LLC does NOT offer certifications to any Instructor...we are 'licensed' to teach Zumba fitness...rules and restrictions apply and there is a formula and format that we must adhere to.
What you CAN do at home...are the Transformation DVD Sets or the new Exhilarate DVD set...they are both awesome and a wonderful way to start your Zumba Fitness journey. I do suggest attending a live Zumba Fitness class...keeping in mind that not all Instructors teach the same. Find the instructor that you feel good with...one that communicates and pays attention to the needs of her students...Good luck!!

No. To learn the Zumba format, you must attend a live training to become licensed (not certified). You then must keep that license current in order to keep teaching Zumba and using the Zumba name and trademarks. Most Zumba instructors do this by paying dues to ZIN, the Zumba Instructor Network. ZIN membership also allows you to take specialty courses, such as AquaZumba and Zumbatomic (the kids' program). Keep in mind that the word Zumba is a trademark, and you must have a license to use it in your class name, etc.
My advice would be to find a Zumba Basic Steps 1 training at a location you want to visit. Trainings are often scheduled the day before major fitness conventions, so you could combine obtaining a Zumba license with earnings your CEUs for ACE or other certifying bodies. For example, there is a Zumba Basic Steps 1 training before the IDEA World convention, and one before most of the SCW Fitness Mania events. You could also plan to attend a Zumba Basic Steps 1 training on a Saturday at a location where there is another Zumba training scheduled for the next day. This is another cost-effective way to take the training.
In the alternative, if you do not see any trainings listed in your area, you could work to arrange one. Find local instructors and determine who the local Zumba Education Specialist (ZES) is, then contact them and request a training in your area. You could also contact the Zumba home office directly and request a training in your area. Coordinating the training (by obtaining a location, etc.) might enable you to train for free or at a reduced price.

Since you're already certified with ACE (it is a group cert, right?), just go to a Zumba workshop for the training. Remember, training is not the same thing as certification at all. In many cases, you will need a cert as well as Zumba training to teach genuine Zumba classes in most gyms/clubs. Best wishes to you, girl!
