You are not going to be a licensed nutritionist with a nutrition certification such as the NASM specialty credential.

I agree! Registered Dietitians with the type of sports nutrition certification referred to in the link provided are the experts. Thanks, Shawn!

Hi,Susan!

The most trusted and accurate is Certified Fitness Nutrition Specialist by NASM.

While I haven't finished it yet it does seem solid.

I am currently taking specialty nutrition certifications(ISSA-Specialist in Performance Nutrition, NASM-Fitness Nutrition Specialist, and Precision Nutrition-Certification). I looked at being licensed but its not the direction that I see myself going.

The CSSN is a real nutritionist not a specialty Cert, it is the real deal.

It really depends on what scope of practice you're interested in.
NTA: Nutritional Therapy Association, recognized by some universities for coursework towards a MS in Nutrition and affiliated with Biotics Research NW, inc. a prof supplement co. for licensed physicians. Graduates hold a para-professional title of NTP & CNT. School is in Wa & NYC.
CCN: Certified Clinical Nutritionist. This is another prestigous nutrition title held by most naturopathic doctors who further educate themselves in nutrition.
Note: These organizations use Nutrition as Medicine and are associated with Functional Medicine.
MS: Nutrition & Functional Medicine, Clinical Nutrition, Integrative Nutrition
A degree is always higher than a certification, again it depends on the clientele you plan to work with and scope of practice. I'm an NTP and work alongside physicians to resolve gastrointestinal disorders and blood sugar dysregulation.
