Joanne, as a former ACE trainer could you give a brief discription of what IFT model is? Thanks.

Not yet I am only 150 pgs into the new manual and haven't taken the free to ACE trainers online IFT course yet. Looks promising so far though. It is definitely a forward step to a certification that I was seriously disappointed in 2 years ago.

Happy to hear that you are reading the new manual and that you are pleased so far with the IFT Model. Personally, I am very impressed! So impressed that my company is now an educational partner with the American Council on Exercise.
The American Council on Exercise has raised the bar much higher with this new model and certification.
I hold all of ACE's certification as you saw from my profile and feel strongly that this model is an excellent place for new trainers to start and veteran trainers to improve their game.
Sometime ago I posed a question regarding exercise programming solutions and which one is being utilized by certified professionals utilizing this portal. I was curious to find out if anyone was using the IFT Model. I was quite surprised to find out that even though there are hundreds of ACE Certified Personal Trainers on this portal no comments were posted indicating that the IFT Model is being utilized.
I am interested in knowing among the throngs of ACE Certified Professionals on this portal who is utilizing it and also to learn their feedback.
Thanks Shawn for your post.

Yeah the foundations of ACE's information was taken from ACSM second edition Personal Trainer Resources Textbook - Feel free to read up on that as the original is published there.

Jason, I am very familiar with the ACSM approach having passed four of their exam. Too, and am also an educational partner with ACE and haven't come across that information.
I've looked in all my ACSM textbook and for the most part I have all the recent ones and can't seem to locate it. Would you forward me the reference? I'd be happy to see it.

Joanne, I was so pleased to see the IFT model included in the new ACE Personal Training manual and have begun using it with all of my clients. Over the last 20 years, I have attended many conferences and continuing education workshops that have addressed a lot of the concepts in the model, and I have gradually integrated many of the ideas into my training practices. It is nice to finally see it all put together in a very practical, effective, systematic approach that every trainer can follow. The biggest challenge in using it may be in helping clients understand the importance of establishing firm foundations for a successful training experience. Many clients want to "jump right in" to intensity and tradition, so we have to consistently educate and inform our clients about the reasons behind our training choices. Sometimes, all it takes is a "needs work" result on a core function assessment to convince!

I tell my clients, If you can't throw your own body weight around, why should I put weights in your hands? I explain to them the importance of learning these basic movements by saying, It's not like you ever squat, push, pull, or lunge (btw...how did you get into your car today to get here LOL?). Explain to your clients the importance of learning to do these movement rights so their muscles can protect them far into the future. Tell them to focus on doing the movements slow and perfect. Clients really do want to do the movements perfectly. I tell them, it's not practice that makes perfect, it's perfect practice that makes perfect.
I love, love, love the IFT model. I passed my cert out of the 3rd edition book but have been using this model for some time now. Good to see ACE has caught up to me Hehe ;D. ACE is impressing me more and more!
