There a dangers to doing the master cleanse. however there are dangers to doing anything in life. If you follow the procedures outlined by the cleanse one gain beneficial results through detoxifying the body. It is really important to come off the cleanse gradually and not to start eating heavily and quickly. Also, it should be reminded that it is NOT a diet to lose weight. It is a cleanse.

Hi Katia,
A master cleanse (aka lemonade diet), is a great cleanse if you're doing it for the right reasons. From a Holistic stand point, you should only do this type of cleanse twice a year (Spring and Fall), and it should NEVER be done for weight loss.
Realistically your cleanse can last up to 30 days and then you gradually start incorporating juices (raw), fruits, vegetables and grains while eliminatlng entirely animal proteins, processed sugars and carbs.
The 30 days are to allow you to transition to a healthier life style (more vegetarian/vegan), but it's not for losing 10lbs then eating the way that you were. :D

Thanks you Jason and Lisa!
I heard that while the body is getting rid of the toxins your skin may get rashes and not look good for some time. Is this true?

I've not heard of that happening but I've also not met many people who will truly "cleanse" and then go into the next phase of eating (i.e. vegetarian or veganism) and introducing more vegetables and fruit in their diets. Most will a cleanse for 3-4 days for weight loss and then go back into their old eating habits (causing rapid weight gain).
I've never thought of cleansing, sweating, mud baths, body wraps or sauna as an effective way of getting rid of toxins as we are surrounded by toxins every and all day. I could be wrong on this but....

Many years ago, before it became fashionable, I went of a one week retreat and did a cleanse. After the end of the week, I felt absolutely fabulous and was almost reluctant to eat anything again because I did not want to mess it up. But the process to get there was not all that easy.
I was in my mid-twenties and in excellent health. I played Squash several times a week. There was a mini-exercise program in the morning, and I looked at it down my nose because it was so basic. Well, I fainted! Never did that before in my life. That entire day I had a horrible headache (I still remember that decades later), my tongue was a really strange color, and the friend who I had gone with, was close to calling an ambulance. The next morning I awoke and felt as fresh as a daisy and had a great week after that.
In other words, you never know what is the result of such an experiment. I would not suggest that anybody try this by themselves. Looking at the entire group, nobody would have suggested that I - as the apparently fittest and healthiest - would have had such a reaction.
