Are "5 Hour Energy" drinks good for you?

BeveragesEnergy

I don't believe in drinking energy drinks because they are so unhealthy, but I was recently told that "5 Hour Energy" drinks just have a lot of vitamins in them, so they give you a good energy boost. Is this true? I am still quite skeptical.

First: vitamins contain 0 calories, you get no energy whatsoever from vitamins. Vitamins will help increase the utilization of the foodstuff you take in, but do not directly give you energy.

Caffeine contains 0 calories and acts as a diuretic further dehydrating you. If you take these in the morning and have not drank any water you are only further dehydrating yourself (so now your brain gets dry and brain function slows down).

A 5-hour energy is pretty much equivalent to drinking a cup of coffee and taking a cheap multivitamin.

If you want to wake up in the morning drink water and eat whole-grains, fruits and vegetables.

Hello Angela,
I have never tried that product or any type of energy drink. Im skeptical of those types of products and the marketing put behind them. Better left on the shelf... eat a balanced meal, get plenty of rest and stay hydrated.

Sincerely,
Michael

I'm wondering the same thing! I'm trying to get off of coffee but I'm sure I'll need to get the energy somehow! :)

I'm not sure how "good" a mega dose of vitamins can be for you. Personally, I get a better "lift" from a couple cups of coffee.

Hi Angela. My personal opinion is that I don't endorse these products. Getting my 'energy' from food is best in my opinion.

Vitamins in a little, overpriced bottle. Sometimes with caffine. Caffine will give you a boost but don't lose your skepticism.
