Question asked by Danielle Marquez 128 days ago
Anyone pregnant after finding a bulging disc?
It's actually a question for me. I've had ongoing back issues for years, but just found the bulging disc in an MRI last year. I recently had a severe muscle strain in the back and could not function for a few days. I'm terribly worried about getting pregnant (hubby and I getting started) and things going from bad to worse. I do (and teach) Pilates, and am trying to stay moderate with weights and avoid anything high-impact. Anything you can share would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Danielle,
First, I wanted to ask you if you know how much of a bulge you have(in mm?). Do you have symptoms of numbness or tingling down your legs, weakness or cramps in legs??? If not you can most likely conservatively manage the back problem by visiting a licensed Doctor of Chiropractic. They will treat you and give you exercises to manage your back pain. Also monitor you prior to and throughout your pregnancy. I assume , since you have had an MRI, you have seen a doctor, but to keep the lower back pain from flaring up during pregnancy, since you will be adding on weight and the weight will also change the biomechanics of your spine, manage it prior to getting pregnant. if you have any more questions or want to add details you can contact me at drmaggiepm@gmail.com
Hope this helped a little. Good luck.

Hi Maggie,
Thanks so much for your answer. I don't know the bulge in mm, but I do have sciatica. My doctor recommended physical therapy, so that and some rest have helped alot. I overlooked the fact that I also train about 20-25 hours a week, and that I do too much demonstration. That will take a toll too!
Also, after watching a video on IDEA about shoulders, I realized that my ongoing
shoulder problem could have an impact (duh--I am always monitoring others for the weaknesses in the kinetic chain, but missed this in myself). Anyway, it's better so hoping it will continue.
