Advice on military specific (style) certifications...
CertificationsInternational Fitness Professionals Association (IFPA)National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA)
I am currently looking at the fit for duty through IFPA or the Tactical Strength and Conditioning Facilitator (TSAC-F) through NSCA. I am looking for advice on either or other "tactical" certifications.

The IFPA has developed the IFPA Certified Military Fitness Specialist Course that provides specific knowledge, skills and abilities for the conditioning of all members of the "WARRIOR CLASS." The course covers the current fitness requirments and how to achieve the requirements for Navy, AirForce, Army, Marines, Coast Guard, FBI, Police/Law Enforcement and Firefighters. The course also prepares you for the demandind physical requirements our Warriors need to survive. You can find more information and details on the IFPA web site: WWW.IFPA-FITNESS.COM

Thank you,
I have been looking over this certification quite a bit. It seems to fit what I think I want to do with the certification.

If you're comfortable using a TRX Suspension Trainer, the company offers three courses under the broad category of "TRX Force Education." Their website states that "there are 3 courses: Operator Course (Level 1), Trainer Course (Level 2), and the Train the Trainer Course (Level 3)."
If this sounds interesting to you, find out more about these TRX educational courses by clicking this link: http://www.trxtraining.com/products/trx-force-education
I hope this is along the lines of what you're looking for!

Thank you! I did not think to look into TRX. But I definitely will -

I don't have a background in this but I'd suggest looking into ACE, NASM, ISSA and other PT programs and see if they have military specializations.
I will look into ISSA - so far I havent found many others. Thank you for the response!

Hi Thea,
I like the TSAC-F certification. I'm not sure how much experience you have with training military, law enforcement or firefighters but this is a great certification to have. There are some great resources which you will have access to once you get certified and you will be exposed to a lot of useful information. I'm glad NSCA decided to offer such a certification because the need to train and educate military people and other law enforcement agencies is something that was missing from our industry. I know each military branch and law enforcement agency as well as firefighter academies have their own instructors and ways of training their personnel and a certification like TSAC-F can bring together ideas form all of these branches and help each other to get better and more efficient. Their conferences and workshops are great and you will find a number of great speakers and topics in their agendas. Also, their newsletter has great information about training and other interesting topics which you will find very useful. I'm not sure if this answer helps you, but this would be my choice of certification.
Best,
Harris

Thank you so much. I have little experience (I was able to tag along and help lead a PT program for the Colorado Army National Guard and that is it) but am in the process of enlisting and would really like to either get involved training those enlisted or help those who are in the process prepare for basic and the PT requirements.

Thea,
It really depends on the TYPE of training you want to provide for your given clientele. Are you wanting to train civilians in a militant fashion, train military personnel, or those wanting to join the armed forces? All are different I assure you.

I am hoping to either train military personnel or those in the process of enlisting. I am in the process of enlisting in the National Guard and think I would really like to train those in my shoes, trying to prepare for basic training or those wishing to improve PT scores.
I had the chance to tag along with SGT Ken Weichert who is an Army Master Trainer and we lead a bootcamp for the Colorado National Guard and that is something I would like to do. It shook up the PT program a bit - I know this is a little harder as each branch will have different regulations on what is allowed. Or possibly even put on bootcamps for military personnel only. Not 100% yet on what specifically I wish to do.

I would go for NSCA.
Not only do they have the training, they have the science to back it up. You also receive a journal specific to military style training.
All the best to you!
